Combustible, Comedic Chemistry!

Five years on, once married rich, selfish, and reckless divorcee couple, Amanda Prynne and Elyot Chase, have both recently remarried and are by some quirk of fate, honeymooning at the same time, in the same hotel, and yes, you’ve guessed it in adjoining rooms.

Despite their previous volatile three-year marriage, the old flames of love, lust and passion are immediately reignited, and they fling themselves headlong into a whirlwind of scintillating mischievous trouble by fleeing to Amanda’s Parisian apartment, abandoning their new spouses, the young but insipid Sibyl and decent but awfully dull Victor behind them.

A classic, deliciously, effervescent romp then ensues, with the couples alternating between heated rows, passionate reconciliations, mutual disgust and loathing then back again. Reminding them and us all of the age-old adage, “just be careful what you wish for”!

Private Lives is a genuine comedic masterpiece, written in just three days at the peak of Coward’s career, it is full of razor-sharp wit, and sparkling repartee. It remains Coward’s greatest success and promises to give an evening of acutely sharp, divinely decadent, unashamed humour, which still has the power to thrill, provoke and delight even today. Cocktails and chaos abound in this sparkling comedy. A “must see” for this season.
